Extremely precise 50-band digital EQ for audio sculpting. The EQ bands of the Harmonic Equalizer were designed to be able to isolate the individual harmonics of musical notes in the range of a guitar (E2 to A5, from fundamental to Harmonic 6).

Each band consists of a ten-stage (order 20) IIR digital filter with -80dB band stop. This makes for a high-precision band-pass curve.

Latency can be reduced to imperceptible if need be. For slower computers, the buffer size in the Harmonic Equalizer can be adjusted as well as the sample rate and stereo/mono processing.

The central function of the Harmonic EQ is to recognize musical notes being played at the input in real-time and affect the harmonics of those notes as the user decides. The real-time note detection can also be used to send MIDI signals, meaning you can sing or play melodies at the input and have them play in real-time as another chosen instrument. The Ear Training function is used to train your recognition of harmonics. Files may also be played in the main mode or within the full band EQ and the system output can be recorded.

The harmonic preset named, “Absolute Pitch” is a representation of the prominent harmonics thought to exist for the notes. The purpose of this preset is to exaggerate the perfect pitch qualities of each note in real-time as they are played.

Harmonics

All tonal sounds consist of fundamental frequencies and multiples of these frequencies. The sound from an instrument playing a single note is made up of the fundamental frequency of this note plus its multiples (plus any noise the instrument makes). These multiples are called harmonics or overtones. The characteristic sound of any instrument or voice is partly determined by the harmonic profile (the relative levels of the harmonic frequencies).

What is the Harmonic Equalizer?

The heart of the Harmonic Equalizer is an audio processor, which creates a 7-band EQ to match the fundamental and first six harmonics of the fundamental frequency at the input. There is also a 20-band harmonic generator, which can add harmonic frequencies. This means you can play notes and melodies in real time and hear whichever harmonics you choose, up to the 19th harmonic. You can choose to amplify or suppress the same harmonics for all the notes you play or you can select different ones. You can pick multiple harmonics or narrow down to just one.

Play your electric guitar or other instrument through the Harmonic EQ and see what sounds you can create! There are many presets already available to set the levels for all the notes. These are based on the various effects and uses for the sounds. For example, play melodies using harmonics, create melodies from harmonics of different notes that are close to one another, create counterpoint between note fundamentals and harmonics. You can set your levels so that a descending note melody creates a simultaneous ascending harmonic melody. Create other-worldly sounds! Some harmonics are not exactly equivalent to any note on the equal temperament scale but we can still use them together with the conventional scale and unlock new melodies using these harmonic frequencies as "notes".
